Save Some Jobs PDF Print E-mail

The public gave Wells Fargo $25 billion in bailout funds, but rather than investing that money in American jobs by keeping credit flowing, Wells Fargo is considering cutting the cord.

1,000 workers at Hartmarx, the Chicago-based apparel company that makes President Obama's suits, may lose their jobs if Wells Fargo forces the company to liquidate. Two of the bidders on the manufacturer have said that they see the value in continuing the production of top quality suits and will keep the plant open and a third bidder wants to liquidate.

These Hartmarx workers are members of Workers United, SEIU's newest affiliate.

Please take a moment to sign a letter to Wells Fargo Executive Vice President John Stumpf asking him to choose a bidder who will save these jobs.  We'll make sure the letter is delivered with your signature and keep you updated on the situation.

Yesterday, workers at Hartmarx voted in favor of a "sit in," which means that if Wells Fargo or a buyer tries to close the factory, the workers will remain at their job site.

These workers are taking a stand not just for their own jobs for all workers jeopardized by shortsighted banks.

Please co-sign the letter to Wells Fargo right now.

The predecessor unions of Workers United like the ILGWU (remember "look for the union label") have represented Hartmarx employees for almost a hundred years.

I'm proud to ask you to join me in standing with them today.

In Solidarity,

Andy Stern

My Community Portal is now online. Here you will find a constant source of information about the activities of me Jim Howard.  I am using Joomla! software for this site. I have just setup this site and am using Joomla! software and the template is by Template Plazza.

I have set up Joomla! software so many times only to give up on it.  I have an idea for something that I want to try and this software might work well for the project.
Give me a bit of time to get started on it and we will see how it works out.
Most of the time I start out with an idea and end up doing something else.
I wonder what will happen this time.

I am not happy with the new YouTube and the things they are doing to it.  I am playing with Seyret here and seeing if I can set up my own personal mini video site.  So if you see some odd stuff going on here you will know what I am trying to do.
If I get it working correct you can also upload videos.  That might be interesting.

YouTube and Google Accounts Linked PDF Print E-mail

The YouTube team announced Wednesday that your Google account and your YouTube account are tying the knot, as it were, effective immediately.

The two entities are fast becoming one, with new crossover features just around the corner--not surprising, perhaps, in light of the fact that Google owns the video site.

If you sign up for a new YouTube account, you get a Google account as well, and access to iGoogle, Reader, and Docs, according to a blog post. If you already have a Google account, you can simply link to a new YouTube account, rather than creating a new password and account. You can still pick a unique YouTube username, however.

Google already phased out the uploading feature on Google Video earlier this year, so its tighter integration of the Web's most popular video-sharing site should come as no surprise. YouTubers sans Google accounts can resume business as usual, but the final paragraph of the blog post indicates that certain forthcoming YouTube features will require a Google account. Those standing in Google's way, beware.
