I wonder how many of you are getting the hysterical email saying that the United States is going to kill all people over 65 years of age.

“…On Page 425 of Obama's health care bill, the Federal Government will require EVERYONE who is on Social Security to undergo a counseling session every 5 years with the objective being that they will explain to them just how to end their own life earlier. Yes... They are going to push SUICIDE to cut Medicare spending!!! And no, I am NOT KIDDING YOU! So those of you who voted for Obama have now put yourself and your own parents in dire straights... Congratulations!…”

“…Text of the actual bill, which, as far as I can tell after wading through several pages of legalese, merely amends Title 18 of the Social Security Act to stipulate that Medicare will pay for — not mandate — "advance care planning consultations" between individuals and physicians every five years, during which the entire spectrum of end-of-life options can be explained and discussed so said individuals can knowledgeably choose their own treatment preferences in advance…”

Listening for satellites PDF Print E-mail

I put in  the“QRG"s of the four satellites to be launched by the Space Shuttle Endeavour.  Not sure when they will launch them but will be before they land tomorrow.  I have a scanner (radio) but I just have the small indoor antenna on it.  I wish I had an outside antenna.
I tracked satellites in the early days of space.  I even did a column in a publication with details and QRGs and orbit information.  That was a long time ago.  I used to track Explorer 7 and would fall asleep with my headphones on and the next orbit it would wake me up.  Yes.. I been a geek a long time.
When I started Howard’s Notebook I had some of that sort of information on HNB and that was 1982.  Lot of changes from when I tracked Sputnik 1 in 1957.
When I did my radio program “Calling All Shortwave Listeners” I would play each week a track from the 45 rpm “Sounds of Space.”  It was made by Elmo Melton.  I forget his call sign.  Now he had a hell of a ham radio set up and tracking station.  NASA lost one of their satellites and he found it for them.

Reality Television PDF Print E-mail

I hate “Reality Television” with a passion.  I am not sure why I “HATE” it so much.  I often say I “hate” something and I will sometimes have someone try and correct me and say that I should not use the word hate.

“…Reality television frequently portrays a modified and highly influenced form of reality, utilizing sensationalism to attract viewers to generate advertising profits. Participants are often placed in exotic locations or abnormal situations, and are sometimes coached, to act in certain scripted ways by off-screen "story editors" or "segment producers," with the portrayal of events and speech manipulated and contrived to create an illusion of reality through editing and other post-production techniques…”

I should point out that it is the current “reality” shows that I hate.  I have no real problem with the early shows;  “Candid Camera”, “Beat the Clock”, “Truth or Consequences”, “Ted Mack’s Original Amateur Hour”, “You Asked For it” and others.  It is the current shows that I have a problem with and hate.
I also am a fan of true documentary shows like “An American Family.”

I feel that the people that design and promote reality television have no morals or decent and honorable bone in their body.  I think they would steal the pennies off a dead man’s eyes AND broadcast it on TV.

This nation is great because of the freedoms that we have… But just because you have freedom to act like a slug does not mean that you should act like one.

At one time religion had some control over us and put some checks and balances on the way we would behave.  Remember when you could not buy things on Sunday?  I can remember taking a lunch to school on Friday and my mother would forget and send meat in my lunch and the look of shock on the kids at the lunch table when I pulled it out of the sack.
Times have changes for many people and I thank God for that.

We need to go back to the a code of conduct and thinking…  A non-religion and non-legal standard…   Ladies and Gentlemen act a certain way.  I am not sure how we could do it but I think it would be good for this nation.
One thing would be words.  People should not use the word “fuck” or “nigger.”  If a person would use the word “fuck” on TV or in a night club people should object and say "ladies and gentlemen” do not use that word.  There are other words and actions.

I guess it comes down to education in the home and at school.
