Time has a good story: Behind the Unproven H1N1 Flu Vaccine You can read the story but let me sum it up a little bit…They are not going to use unproven vaccine. The vaccine is being tested right now…They are allowing the flu vaccine to be made up so that it will be ready if the vaccine proves safe and if it works…It is just very smart to do that…Do not wait weeks and then find it works and then have to get it ready…Get it ready now…If it does not work you toss it out… But read the story…. The other thing is the report that we could have 90K people due this flu season and they talk about how they come up with that computer model…They say in the story…That we do not know at this point…We may have those sorts of numbers or less. What I worry about is that people may not get the vaccine…People that should get it…Fox “news” is reporting that half of the health care workers are not going to get the vaccine. If the vaccine works and is ready in time and the health care workers do not get the vaccine then they are going to give the flu to others and they are going to get the flu and be off work…This flu season COULD become very bad and very fast…I read or heard on TV that they expect the peak of the flu season to be October 15th. That is not very far off. I do not plan to get the vaccine. It is not fear of the vaccine…It is just that it is rare for me to get it and I think they are going to be short on the vaccine and I think others may need it more that me.

Since 1982 membership access has been simple and free at Howard's Notebook. I wish I could keep it like that...but times have changed. There are spam bots setup that will sign up for membership on a site and then post spam comments to post or may post messages in the message area. I have had to turn off membership access to try and deal with them. Now let me try something different. With the protests on the streets in Iran and a lot of hot rhetoric here at home, I wanted to send a message about how careful we need to be in the messages we're sending back around the world - so I penned this OpEd for this morning's New York Times - especially to flag the dangers of some of what we're hearing from the neocons who dug us a very deep hole in the first place in American foreign policy. Later today I'll be on Hardball with Chris Matthews and the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer to talk about this some more if you'd like to tune in. -- JK
“Walter Cronkite, the CBS anchorman known as both "Uncle Walter" for his easygoing, measured delivery and "the most trusted man in America" for his rectitude and gravitas, has died. Cronkite was 92 years old. At the height of his influence, Cronkite's judgment was believed to be so important it could affect even presidents.developing story …” CNN
Sad day but 92 years of age is a long life. I am one of the Americans that was watching Walter Cronkite live when he give the news that JFK was dead. That is a moment in time that I will never forget.
I was 22 years old at the time. That day I had been listening to WRUL radio, “Radio New York Worldwide” on shortwave radio. I did a weekly radio program for them but I my program was not on at the time. They broken in to the program at the time and said they had news and said that “shots had been fired at President Kennedy’s motorcade in Dallas.” I did not even know he was in Dallas. I turned on the TV and started watch KCMO TV and Walter Cronkite. I saw the above video live at the time. The father Huber mentioned in the broadcast I knew. He had been my pastor at St. Vincent’s Church in Kansas City.
Walter Cronkite dead at 92. Walter Cronkite was an amateur radio operator (KB2GSD) and so is a “Silent Key.”
